Dear Organists, Choral Directors and Singers,
On Thursday January 19th at 7:30pm as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, a full Choral Evensong is to be held at St Mary & St Giles, Stony Stratford. It is with great pleasure that we write to invite choirs from the Borough to join us, so please take this letter as an invitation to participate and save the date as we would love to see you!
Choirs will need to source and rehearse the music prior to January 19th as there will only be time for a brief rehearsal from 6:00-7:00pm in Stony Stratford on the day. Small numbers of singers as well as individuals will be warmly welcomed to swell the ranks as well as full choirs from our neighbouring churches. The focus of this event is one of collaboration and inclusivity so please do not worry if your numbers are small.
The music list will be as follows:
Responses – Smith 4 part in G major
Psalms 98, 99 & 100 (Jubilate Deo) Chants and pointing will be scanned by email once you are able to confirm availability.
Canticles – Stanford in B flat Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis
Anthem – Stanford in B flat ‘Te Deum’
There’ll be an office hymn as well as a final hymn which will be decided in due course.
Please contact us should you have any logistical queries and to register your choir or members thereof.
A good deal of this music is now in the public domain and free to print from CPDL and IMSLP. Please check those links via a search engine before paying unnecessarily.
If your choir is robed or gowned, singers are encouraged to robe for this service.
We hope that fellow musicians will be a part of this uplifting service and look forward to welcoming you.
