A lot of very good resources have been produced for church members who are interested in speaking to prospective parliamentary candidates in the General Election about environmental and climate issues. Here are links to 5 resources that provide guidance of how to speak with candidates and the issues and questions that you could raise about climate change and the environment.
Operation Noah and Green Christian have produced a very comprehensive ‘Election Pack 2024’ which provides information about why Christian should engage in the General Election, Voter Registration, hosting hustings, how to talk about green issues, building relationships with candidates, empowering young people, sermons and prayers. The document has lots of links to other useful resources. https://www.operationnoah.
Faith for the Climate has produced an excellent document about key questions to ask candidates, with a lot of background information and how to assess candidates responses. https://faithfortheclimate.
The C of E Environment Programme has produced a 2-page guide on the ‘Environment and the General Election’ which includes 5 key asks and how to engage with candidates. https://trurodiocese.org.uk/
Christian Aid has produced an election crib sheet on climate justice. https://www.christianaid.org.
The Joint Public Issues Team has lots of information about participating in elections as an individual and as a church: https://jpit.uk/elections and this includes a manifesto briefing with calls on 6 topics, one of which is the environment and climate change
Please do share these resources with other people in your church and beyond who are interested in the environment, climate change and justice.
