On Wednesday 22nd January, during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, we held an Ecumenical Service at Christ the Cornerstone.
"Do you believe this?" It's a question that echoes through time, from Jesus' conversation with Martha to our own hearts today. As we mark the 1,700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea, this powerful question serves as the theme for the 2025 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
Our Service brought together churches from across Milton Keynes for an evening of shared prayer, reflection, and fellowship - a tangible expression of the unity we seek as Christ modern disciples.
The theme draws from a deeply moving moment in Scripture - when Jesus meets Martha in her grief over Lazarus's death. Their exchange in John 11:17-27 captures the essence of faith that has united Christians for centuries. It's particularly fitting as we commemorate the Council of Nicaea, where the words "I believe" became the foundation of the Creed that still binds Christians worldwide.
Our Service brought together churches from across Milton Keynes for an evening of shared prayer, reflection, and fellowship - a tangible expression of the unity we seek as Christ modern disciples.
During the service we celebrated our common faith. Candles were handed out to church leaders. Revd George Mwaura, CTMK's Chair of Trustees, lit the first candle and shared the light with the church leader next to him, then each person lit their neighbour's candle. The leaders, together with the congregation, then said the words of the Creed.
Thank you to all the churches who took part in our service and to everyone who joined us.
