Churches Together in Milton Keynes

We are a network of Christian communities in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. We are working together to show God’s love to the Borough and City of Milton Keynes.

Our current priority is to build a strong network of committed member congregations.

We have a particular concern with Poverty, Climate, Refugees, Racial Justice and Mental Health.

Could your church host The Hiding Place theatre production this May?

Oddments Theatre Company is a Christian theatre charity, based in Yeovil. Established in 1981, they take theatre with a Christian message to churches, schools and prisons throughout the UK. They aim to share the Christian message through entertaining and thought-provoking drama.

They are hoping to perform at HMP Woodhill on Sunday 11th May. Due to the distance involved (they are based in Somerset), to make this cost-effective and fuel efficient, they would be looking to include this as part of a tour in the Milton Keynes/Buckinghamshire area. The cost of putting on a prison show is offered free to prisons wherever possible. This is made possible by being subsidised by their supporters and through the help of churches.

They write:

What are we offering?
We are bringing our new prison-specific drama 'My Story' to HMP Woodhill and would be bringing 'The Hiding Place' production to your church. The Hiding Place is the true story of Corrie ten Boom and her family's struggle to save the Jews from the Nazis and how their faith became light in the darkest places. It is a powerful and moving play which is ideal for both church audiences and the wider community.

How does it work?
We bring all of our own equipment - stage set, lighting, sound etc. We provide all the advertising materials you may need to promote the show including flyers, posters and digital promotional materials and an online ticket shop to run alongside in-person sales. We would keep in contact about ticket sales and other details and provide a detailed schedule beforehand.

What do we need?
We would need a performance space, power sockets for our equipment (and an audience!)  Due to the distance travelled we would also ask for host families to put up the team for the night after the show and for a hot meal between set-up and performance.

How much does it cost?
The pricing can be found here. The simplified version of the show is only available for local shows, so you would be looking at the two-hour options. The first costs £750, BUT you get to keep the revenue from the first 50 ticket sales, meaning if you sell 50+ tickets at £13.50, you will only pay £75 for the show! The second option costs £950 and you can keep any revenue from the show - this means you can charge full or subsidised ticket prices or offer the show as a free outreach to the community; the choice is yours. (As an example, if you sold 70 tickets at full price you would break even.) In addition to this we would ask for a contribution to fuel costs - the fuel costs are split between events if they are part of a tour and normally equate to £25-40.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

We look forward to hearing from you.

With kind regards,
God bless,
Joanna
